Why not? With so much re-engineering and welding, why have I not heard
of anyone doing this? It would make some sense if a proper muffler could
be found to do both. As I look under the new VW's w/dual exhaust, I see
a set of two pipes, two cats and a bunch of resonators, mufflers,
combiners, etc...

Anyone done this? Just a weird thought...
