William, I was just working you over with the Chevette ( not just any old Chevy ) and the motel room--- These tent's are pretty neat--and are part of the VW "Carma" thing--- Ok---forget the Chevette--how about a Vega---- and a flop house---:>) Later, Terry A Chevy and a motel? I ask myself the same question when I add up what I've spent so far ($6,000 on improvements and $11K for the van.) Did I buy a money pit or an adventure? Love my vanagon. Love the improvements. Love this list. Love to restore it and upgrade the van, but will still go with an unattached tent option if I ever go there. I guess I'll be missing the total experience until I see someone who has it set up and can convince me it is worth the upgrade. By the way what does still half unattached mean exactly? Seriously! William Did you read this is a drive away tent? You are still half unattached--- And why would you want to spend the big money for a Vanagon, when you could have a Chevette, and a motel room? Your missing the total experience I guess I'm just not informed enough to qualify for a vanagon aficionado. Why would I want to attach a tent to my van at $600 when I can go to target and get a great tent for $300 or so and pitch it a distance away for privacy for the kids or guests? And maybe get an awning for the van. I just do not get the ugly tent thing. Am I missing something? I always thought the vanagon experience was to get unattached and freedom bound. William 1977 Vega
