Jon,
Be sure to add up the extras that you will need if they are not
included with the shortblock. Items like a 1.9 timing belt, int. pulley, oil
pump, oil filter adapter, and vacuum pump usually come in a kit at extra
cost. Also be aware that you will need to use a hydraulic lifter head; the
stock diesel vanagon head is mechanical.
