We finally installed a set of Vredestein Transport Steel (205/75 r14) on our 91 Carat. At first I thought they looked a bit big, but now I'm used to them (They replaced a set of Firestones that were 205/70 - wouldn't have thought it would make a diff - optically). Any rate, these tires have a LI of 109 or so. - really improved the ride. bem ----- Original Message ----- From: dave bowers <dave@SPARKPLUG.COM> To: <vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> Sent: Friday, May 03, 2002 2:21 PM Subject: Tire Size Recommendation for a 1991 Carat > Hi Folks, > > After doing a lot of research on tires for my 1991 Vanagon Carat, with alloy > rims, I have settled on Michelin XCA's for my tires. > > Seems now, the last decision I need to make, is tire size. > > I have hear of folks putting a variety of tire sizes on their vans, from > 175's, all the way to 225. > > I was considering settling on 205/75R14's. > > Can anyone speak to an "optimal tire size" for the Carat, if there is indeed > one? > > Is wider better? > > I'd rather not make a bad choice, and would love input from anyone who has > success mounting their ideal tire size on a set of standard alloys. > > Thanks much! > > dave bowers > vancouver, wa
