There are some cardboard wind deflectors behind the grill that can become pretty raged as they weather. One may have become dislodged. that's what I'd check first! On a recent trip I had a noise that I have had a few times now - always when driving in significantly high wind - seems like it depends on the angle of wind to the van. Comes on suddenly and is a very loud drumming - sound like is coming from the grill area. I'm assuming it is something loos that begins to vibrate when buffeted by wind at a given velocity and direction. Very loud and annoying. I haven't started to investigate. Anyone experienced this?
