Terry, That's what I have been trying to get across! its the relative size of the bits in contact that is important! The large area of aluminium will show no appreciable signs of corrosion as a result of the galvanic reaction with the ferrous fastener, but a large bit of ferrous fastened with a small Al rivet will cause problems with the AL fastener. In this case size does matter. ab > From: CTONLINE@webtv.net (Terry K.) > Date: Wed, 15 May 2002 10:40:33 -0500 (CDT) > To: albell@uvic.ca (Alistair Bell) > Cc: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM > Subject: Re: Subject: Re: Want to paint camper roof > > No they don't Alistair---- > > Guess what Dr. Terrence has been working on for almost 30 years---- > > Semi's---- > > Repeat after me----steel holding aluminum----steel holding > aluminum---:>) > > Been this way forever---- > > Aluminum wheels mounted to steel hubs, with steel lugs----- > > Ok--so it's reverse of where we are going-----aluminum holding > stainless---but it don't make no difference--the possibility of the > corrosion can work either way---- > > I'm all done---worn out on this one---:>)
