"Brother" Rodgers essay reminded me of a joke told by a long-time political
reporter in Louisiana.  It goes like this:  "Ever wonder why there are so
many crooks, eccentrics, characters and mad-men in the Louisiana
legislature? (pause for a proper length of time)  Because it's a
representative body!"  So it could be said of us.
