Shane,

My '91 GL used to do the same thing. I noticed that if I don't use
20w50 or if I overfill with oil, the buzzer will come on when I'm
decellerating after driving for long periods at high speeds (like on the
highway). I haven't had it since I let out a bit of oil so that the
level is between the min and max marks on the dipstick.

I just purchased a 91 Carat. On my drive home (bought it in Connecticut
drove it

home to VA) as I was pulling off the exit ramp to take a pit stop, I had
the unnerving experience of having the oil light and warning buzzer
going off. I pulled into the gas station, called the guy I bought it
from, and he said. Oh yeah, after driving on the highway for a while
this happens. No big deal... all older VW's do that... blah, blah...
Is this true? Anybody know what's actually causing this to happen?
