James, I have the same thing in my 1980. I had assumed that it was just a fancy 'blank'. I have a spot for an additional button beside the speedometer as well and the 'blank' that currently occupies it has a little grommet in it as well. It's as if it would hold a LED if I wanted one there to indicate something. \/\/i!!y 1980 Westy "Jazzy" -----Original Message----- From: Vanagon Mailing List [mailto:vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM] On Behalf Of James Piotrowski Sent: May 23, 2002 16:03 To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Subject: Mystery Accessory I have some kind of outlet or accessory plug, or something, on the dash of my '82 Westy. What I see is a round metal (aluminum probably, maybe stainless) collar, with a hole. The hole is approx. 1/4" in diameter. This is mounted in the dash directly above the "TEMP" knob for the aux. gas heater. At the bottom of the hole is some strange kind of socket. No, this is not a lighter-type hole, smaller than that. The strange socket looks like maybe it holds a type of lightbulb I've never seen, but a very small one if that's what it is. Any clues what this is? or what it's for? If I have a chance I'll get a jpeg. James M. Piotrowski
