Folks,
Today I removed my the front carpet and padding out of my 87 Westy, with the
intention of putting down some B-Quiet sound dampening material.  I noticed
that the floor on the driver's side looks different from the passenger side
- like additional metal has been welded where the driver's feet go, roughly
from the wheel well to the gas pedal.

I'd  appreciate it if sbdy could take a look at a jpg of the area and tell
me what you think.  For all I know every Vanagon is this way; I've just
never seen the flooring in another one before.
