Subject:Alloy rim question

Hey Folks,

Simple questions here. Besides aesthetics (and perhaps weight), are there
any advantages to stock alloy VW rims over steel ones?

I have an opportunity to buy 4 at a terrific price (I'm embarrassed to say
how much). A friends 1988 Wolfsburg was totaled, and he's held onto them for
years. When I told him I had bought my 1986 Westy, he offered them up to me.

I have original steel rims, and cute silver metal hub caps, with stock
185/R14 tires on my Westy now.

Part of me likes the wheels I have now, and part of me has *always* wanted
these alloy rims (doh, where was he when I had my 1991 GL?!).

Anyhow can I assume they will fit my 1986, and that my current tires will
fit on them?

Any pros or cons to Alloy's, over my perfectly good steel rims?

Just curious,

Thanks,
