Hi Glen, I have done this fix twice (no, not on the same tranny). :) I have pictures of the broken hubs on my site, but no repair instructions. You will access to a hydraulic press, and need to purchase or fabricate a tool to remove the pinion retaining nut and the differential collars on the side of the tranny. I bought a BugPak brand tool for the pinion, and made a tool for the collars. Other than that, it is a pretty easy repair if you are into that kind of stuff. Pics of the broken hub are at: http://volksweb.relitech.com/091trans.htm TomC tcarrington@relitech.com http://www.relitech.com/tomc http://volksweb.relitech.com http://checkerweb.relitech.com 85 Vanagon Crew Cab 82 Westy diesel=>gas conversion 81 Checker A-11 (Taxi) 65 Notchback > -----Original Message----- > From: Doublecabguy [SMTP:doublecabguy@SHAW.CA] > Sent: Saturday, June 08, 2002 1:22 AM > To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM > Subject: 3 - 4 syncro hub repair???? > > Hi Volks, > > I am looking for some info on repairing the 3rd-4th gear syncro hub on a > 86 rwd. transmission. > I have a spare transmission that I want to repair. > It is grinding when coming out of 4th gear. > I believe that it is the all to common 3rd-4th gear syncro hub. > Has anyone done this repair them selves? > If so how difficult was the repair? > Where can I buy the parts for the repair? > At one time there was a list member that had pictures of the repair on his > web site. > Does anyone know the URL for this site ? > > Any advice and info on the repair is greatly appreciated. > > Thanks > Glen Cook
