I drove my van with the PS rack disconnected for 1.5 years. Its fine on the highway but not fun intown. Forget parallel parking too. I think teh non-ps rack is geared differently than the ps rack, also ive heard that the steering wheel on the non-PS vans is bigger. Go ahead and disconnect your PS pump, i don't think you'll hurt anything. Andrwe FOx 86' Westy w/ 200K 3rd PS rack, 3rd engine, thousands of dollars in other parts replaced. im sorry to say i beleive my vehicle is a mechanical POS! OK I may be missing something here, and any other items on the same belt would still need to be driven. Quick solution, and if you ever decided that you (or another driver) needed power steering, no drama to hook it up again. Women love power steering.
