I know what you mean, many spots don't have a level spot for the van, or
enough room for  side tent, but note that when making camp reservation at
Acadia National Park, one of the camping options is.....and I quote....
"Van or bus with side tent"!!

Obviously when they said bus they were referring to a VW!
