Head gasket repair is proceeding apace on my 85 wasserboxer.  Now I'm in the reassembly process and have a gasket question.  I note that some gaskets have a metallic side and a fiber side.  Others have a smooth side and a coarse side.  Any rule of thumb concerning how these should be mounted?
