The latter cannot be overemphasized.  As I recall, a listmember on another
list was killed not long ago while doing this, when the bus jumped into gear
(or, more likely, was inadvertantly left in gear) and ran him over.  Start
by hitting the solenoid with a hammer while the van is off. It too may solve
the problem and is without risk.
