82 Vanagon Westy, trying to replace the battery located under the passenger seat. Removed the "clamp bolt", but the bulk of the frame/cover assembly in there seems to be riveted in. Not sure what removing this bolt did. Tried to remove the current correct-size battery in there with a Lisle battery removal tool (like a big pair of tongs)- that didn't work. Wouldn't open far enough to grasp the whole battery, and if it did, nothing to grasp on to. Also tried using a pair of long flat-blade screwdrivers to ease it out. Also no luck. Such a simple task, and the manuals I have don't give any direction at all. And worst of all, no maneuvering room! ARRGHH! A little help, please?
