Thanks for all the replies on my roof rack dilemma. For the record, the 9 replies were broken down as follows: 4 had drilled theirs recently/a while ago/years ago, no problems and love it go for it 2 suggested the tall foot racks from Yakima and/or Thule 2 still trying to decide what to do 1 - suggested switching to foldable kayaks (thanks Barry :-)) Wonder if the drilling impacts the resale value at all; not that Im planning to sell ~Eric~ -----Original Message----- From: Eric Unrau [mailto:eunrau@yahoo.ca] Sent: June 26, 2002 11:16 AM To: 'vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM' Subject: Westy Roof Racks - carrying kayaks Here in Vancouver, BC a lot of Westy owners seem to be using the Thule or Yakima artificial rain gutter brackets (http://www.thuleracks.com/thule/product.asp?sku=542&dept_id=16) bolted to their camper tops and standard crossbars from either company to carry kayaks, canoes, sailboards etc. One guy told me he stands on the bars regularly without any signs of stress appearing in the fibreglass. Although this looks like the most practical solution, Im having a hard time committing to the idea of drilling holes in my camper top. Any comments/encouragement from those of you who have done this would be appreciated; arguments against also appreciated. ~Eric~ 89 Westy
