I've kept a magnet-mount scanner antenna there (a little inboard of there
actually) for donkey's years.  The antenna has two traps on it, and I bent
it just below the bottom trap so the rest of it is vertical.  For a
transmitting antenna I think you'd want to make the bend just above the
loading coil, and it still might do interesting things to the VSWR.  Of
course with a ball-mount no problem.
