Hm, Yesterday I ate 1400kilometers from north to south Germany (and back) without any problems (besides my sore shoulders and back now...). 15 hours of hard driving (with second vanagon on a trailer behind me, a total of ca. 3,8tons), steep hills (8% up/down factor!). I have never been so pleased with my Vanagon since the holiday trip to spain in 98! Well, I didnt have to mess with the weak wasserboxer. The Audi engine runs great. Now it runs even better than 3 days before!
