I slipped the new gear in position, lined all the wheels up (the tricky
part), and tapped the new metal gear on with a finishing nail counter sink.
Support the other end of the shaft with a bolt or something--don't hammer
on the plastic case. It helps to have two sets of hands. I don't know
about the pllastic gear on the other end. I have fixed two odometers this
way. When re-installing the speedo needle, it must be slightly pre-loaded
about 10 mph or so. I haven't perfected this part yet!

Volks,

My odometer quit odding. Mathew p of Idaho fame said Palo Alto Speedo
could
supply the replacement gears for 17 except they had a minimum order of $25.
A local [Sacramento] speedo shop has the parts and said they'd sell me both
the plastic outer and pot metal inner gear for $15 but... They said to
replace the inner pot metal one is not a home guy job and if you just
replace the plastic outer it will fail in 2-6 months because the inner one
is no good. $85 to replace both.

How says the list?

Just glue the inner pot metal gear to the shaft or pay the piper?

Mike

By the way my oil light is not burned out, works to show that 30 wt is not
enough for 100 degree weather but doesn't come on when the key is turned on
[but the engine isn't running] Another magnetic declination of the moons
of
Jupiter problem?
