Subject:'85 Vanagon Sunroof - DUMPING! HELP!
From:Dustin Fitch

Hey all. I have read through the email archives for some discussion on
sunroofs, but have not seen anything really related to my specific problem.
Here it goes, I hope y'all can help -

Ok....sunroof is closed. It rains. Sitting there, no rain will come
in...no leaks. Then, I'll go to take off and either go up a hill or step on
the brake and KABLOWIE, I get major rain....everything that has been sitting
in the track and has not drained comes pouring in. Now, I have gotten up on
the roof with the hose and sprayed water at all 4 holes that should normally
drain the rainwater....and yup, the water comes out the bottom of the
vehicle, front and rear, just where it should! I also took some wire and
snaked all 4 holes....no obstructions. The one thing that I know needs
replacing is the gasket thing around the innner edge of the sunroof. Ok, I
can do that....but why are my holes not draining that rainwater if they are
not obstructed?? I thought maybe at first, that water was pooling up in
there and not making it to the drain hole...and maybe when I got in her
after rain I could just sit on my hill for a second and it would
drain.....but no, it's not just a little water pooling while the bulk of the
rainwater drains....it seems like none of it is draining......but if the
holes are clear...why not??

It seems the person who had it before me could not figure it out
either.....they put a bead of silicon around that sunroof up on top and
closed it up for good. I guess they had had it. I however, cannot let that
big, beautiful sunroof remain closed forever...it must open....it must
function.

Anyone ever come across this?? I've seen leaking sunroofs in the
email...track questions..adjustments....but nothing quite like this...

Thanks in advance y'all for any help!!

Dustin
