In a car I had back in the '80s, I installed a device called a Compucruise.  It was pretty
neat, and also used magnets to read speed.  They were mounted on the driveshaft, and, as I
recal, they were attached with some cement and also thin wire that wrapped all the way around
and was twisted tight.
