Subject:A/C compressors rebuildable?

Hi there,
90 westy syncro.  My A/C works well, but the compressor whines/hisses a lot
(bearing noise, I believe) whenever it's on.  Is there a good source for
rebuilding the compressor, or is it just cheaper to replace it?  Seems a
waste....
