Traveling hwy 1 in CA, where to camp? caravan?.....................
?
Did that trip in late May. At that time I encountered a lot of fog
along Highway 1 traveling in the morning, don't know if that is a
problem this time of year. Not a problem driving, but can't enjoy the
view!
There is a nice state park between Santa Cruz and Watsonville, Sunset
Beach. You will probably need reservations on the weekend, but I got in
on a weekday, had nearly the whole camp to myself. $12 a night, not
exactly on the beach, but behind the dunes, the beach is a 500 yard
walk.
BTW, while in the Santa Cruz area you will want to stop in at Volkscafe,
right in downtown Santa Cruz, map on their website if I recall right.
I also stayed one night at the absolute best commercial RV park I have
ever been in, Pismo Sands,as you are leaving Pismo Beach heading south,
or just as you drop into the flat, just before town, if coming from the
south. $32 a night and sharing with typical RV crowd, but the nicest,
cleanest RV park I've ever been in (exception: Golden Shores in downtown
Long Beach)
