Folks, Just wanted to say thanks to all who replied to my roof rack question a while back. I opted to go the Thule-with-artificial-gutters route. I installed it Sunday afternoon and promptly tested it on the highway, uh, with my wife's kayak ;-) Measuring where to drill the holes was frustrating due to the fact every surface one would measure from is curved. I made a template out of the cardboard from the box the fake gutters came in and used that to mark the drill points. I daubed some clear silicone on the holes to (hopefully) prevent moisture from infiltrating the fiberglass. The bolts Thule supplies are WAY too long (i think somebody warned me about this). But other than that it all went together like a good jigsaw puzzle. I'll try and post some pictures when i finally get both boats up there. It looks a bit freaky... the combined height of the vehicle, rack *and* the cradle puts the kayaks WAY up in the sky. -jspeer '89 Westy, "Mystery Machine" Now with antlers!
