The list vendors have new Sanden compressors with clutch for about $350. Its
hard to know if your quote is reasonable without knowing what all they are
proposing.

Folks,

My 85 Westy is the shop (Competition Engineering in Tempe, Az) for
misc. electrical work today.

Looks like the A/C compressor needs replacing.

Debating whether to let these guys do it (the seem very competent) or take
it to a A/C specialty shop.

1. Can anyone recommend an A/C shop in the Phoenix area that's familiar with
our Vanagon systems?

2. Got a quote of approx. $1500 from Competition Eng. for a new compressor
and labor. Does that seem reasonable?

3. How about rebuild vs replace?

Hope to find a Syncro sometime soon and would then sell the 85 Westy.

But need to survive the rest of the AZ summer and a trip to CA and back.

Also ... don't want to turn over a mess to the new owner.

Input would really be appreciated.
