Jeff Replaced the backpanel lamp the other day. It's the same as the fan speed backlighting. You can pull the heater knobs -they come staight out with a little effort. The backplate is held in place (push fit) at top right hand corner and bottom left hand corner.Pry gently with screwdriver. Hope this helps Gerry ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jeff Palmer" <jpalmer@MTS.NET> To: <vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> Sent: Friday, August 16, 2002 3:55 PM Subject: heater control panel backlight replacement > i need to replace the bulb that lights up the heater control panel. i've > searched the archives and found one method where you have to remove the > instrument cluster and one where you pull off the heater knobs and pry back > the faceplate. that sounds easier! anyone else try that method? how do > you get the heater knobs off without damaging them? > > i've replaced the bulb that illuminates the rear heater fan before. is it > the same type of bulb? man, those are fussy. > > Jeff > 85 Westfalia GL > Winnipeg
