Subject:Re: The great Subie vs Ticco vs WBX Debate
From:Jeff Kennedy

As far as traveling in Mexico is concerned, that's one of the reasons I went
with the Tiico conversion. I'd imagine South America is the same way.
There's lots of volkswagens! I live in Bisbee, AZ, about 6 miles from the
international border. Everyday I see a new-style VW car with sonoran plates
(the state just south of me). It certainly seems like this is THE popular
new car - at least for those with enough moola to be traveling in the US. I
would bet there's hardly any wasserboxers in the whole country. (Air cooled,
for sure).

So, for items prone to failure (water pumps, thermostats, FI
components, etc.) It seemed like replacements for the I-4 would be a lot
easier to come by than the WBX. And of course you have (nearly) zero chance
of finding a mechanic who's seen a WBX! Personally, I think if you're doing
your own repairs, the I-4 is easier.

Good luck! If you want to come down to Biz to drive the Tiico, you're
welcome to...
Affordable German in Phoenix told me they had installed a dozen tiicos, It
sounded like they knew what they were doing.

Cheers,
Jeff
