> POWER STEERING FLUID: ?? Out of bad experience, DO NOT use Dextron III as the Bentley/User manual states. That is, do not use it if you live in a COLD CLIMATE. What I have successfully done is blow out the pump seals on one pump and plown two holes in the high pressure line. Each happened on a separate occasion and in cold weather. What I reason is that the Dextron III gets too thick when cold. Creates too high a back pressure. Finds the easiest way out - though holes and weaknesses. I know my high pressure lines had rust and they may have needed replacing eventually. The Dextron III made it sooner. My advise is to pay the through-the-nose price that VW charges and put in the real stuff. Alternatively, and this is what I am now doing so time will tell, use Synthetic Dextron III. I reason that this won't thicken as much when cold. Here's hoping Larry
