Gerry, you have to get a grip.  If you know an upholsterer, ask him to spin
it off.  Short of that, you can try a trick used by every farm girl who has
confronted a ring stuck on a Ball jar: wrap it with some cotton twine.
Several WIDE rubber bands can also be used in place of the twine.  If nothing
else, a damp rag might be your salvation.
