Couldn't you just use a padding kit for a 1970's van?  The seats in my '82
look pretty much identical to the ones that were in my '75.  I redid the
'75's seats with a kit from J.C. Whitney.  It helped somewhat, but the JC
Whitney padding really isn't thick enough.  Getting the cover back on is a
real pain, by the way.
