Not a matter of having to, but wanting to try to get better mileage (if possible for driving a brick through the air) and to have the car run cleaner and automatically adjust the air/fuel mixture. One of the benefits is that I increase the longevity of my new stainless steal cat. In addition one can use the cat and exhaust from a 1.9 on a federal system. The benefits: - O2 sensor port, - and all parts available in stainless, so only the heater boxes and crossover pipe will deteriorate. Plus I guess I have too much time to think of things to do. :-) --Jeff 82 Westy, South Florida Sean Garrett wrote: > You should not have to convert this to be "better" in some respects. > My recently rebuilt 81 Fed model gets 18 mpg after a complete rebuild and 7k > miles on her. I took her in at 6k miles for a tune up. Why go to this bother to switch it around. I think you have > to switch around the heat exchanges and the exhaust too. Way expensive.
