In my experience, the first thing to do on a Vanagon with a temperature gauge which is riding high is to check for a pressure leak in the coolant system. The smallest leak can cause a big swing in coolant temperature. For anyone who wants to see the manifestation of this, glue a cat's whisker to the seat of either relief valve in the pressure cap. Then, take a run down the freeway. When you finally stop, you will see the temperature gauge peg out and the expansion tank puke like a sorority girl during spring break. George
