i have found this to be true on brake cylinders or power steering housings, wheel cylinders, and basically any part that is made from a casting or stamping where the original manufacturer of the item is also the supplier to a major auto maker. you will find this on girling, ate, raybestos, sachs, and many others. i only became aware of it recently but checked our stocks at the store and then called some of our dealer liaisons to check their parts. the casting/stamping will have both markings on it and if the maker is sending it to the auto mfr then he grinds (polishes is the term used) of his marking and leaves the automakers. if he is selling to the general parts trade then he grinds of the car manufacturers markings. this is also the reason many rebuilts have no markings on them and two polished spots if they havent been resurfaced. jimt On Tuesday, Oct 1, 2002, at 14:51 America/Denver, The Bus Depot wrote: > claim that it is relatively common among OE suppliers of VW parts for > them > to grind off the VW logo.
