The post-1986 vanagon starters have enough torque for the Subaru
conversion. I tried my starter ('84) and it worked, but just. I ended up
going with KEP's.
Either get ahold of a post-86 Vanagon starter at your local pick-n-pull,
or order KEP's replacement.

I've been trying to assist a recent conversion of a Subaru into a Westy.
What starter are you Subaru guys running? My friend is about to buy one
from Kennedy engineering that they claim is necessary on the conversion.
