i think the hose you are talking about is supposed to be connected to the cooling tin somewhere around the air filter housing. in your picture, there is a spark plug. from what i remember, if you run your hand from about where that spark plug is, down the side of the cooling tin, behind the alternator bracket; you should find a small "nipple" sticking out of the cooling tin. connect that hose to it. your brake booster hose is on the other side as you describe. this hose has nothing to do with that, its not a vacuum hose. david Bill N wrote: > I have a hose that is disconnected, and I don't know where it is supposed to connect. One hose comes off the front of my air filter housing and goes forward to a tank located just forward and inboard of the passenger side rear wheel. The other hose comes off the same tank and returns to the engine compartment, where it is not connected. The tank, standing vertically, is maybe 3" in diameter and 8" high (estimates). > > I have posted a photo at www.willcox.net/vw_hose.jpg. > > Where should this be connecting? Could it have something to do with the brakes, which are spongy right now? The brake hose with check valve is on the other side, I think. > > Thanks, > > Bill in the Southwest
