I just came back from browsing the archives on this issue, but not quite satisfied with what I found. The fuel pump on my 85 1.9 WBX has been making this noise as if a giant bumble bee was trapped inside (took that from an earlier post - not my creation) for a while when warm and audible only at idle. On and off, not consistently. This seems to be a pretty common issue. However what I didn't find in the archives, was if this is a sign of a dying fuel pump, or if it is more like standard vanagon noise. $250 just to get the same noise from a younger pump? What's the typical life expectancy of a stock fuel pump? BTW: So far I only listened to the noise. I neither took anything apart nor checked the fuel filter for clogging at this point.
