I've had great luck with KYB shocks on cars and with
my former 73' Westy.  I just installed a set on my 85'
earlier this week, this combined with the 90' Carat
springs I installed it handles like a dream now!

Get the specifics from your mechanic as to why he
doesn't like'em.
