Clay, usually a CV going bad gives a clunking sound. Give this a try. Get in a big parking lot. Drive your van in a really tight circle, steering wheel to the locks. Do it right and left. This will unually produce a knocking if a CV is bad. However, all knocking is not CV's going bad. If you have any loose CV bolts, it will allow the CV to work against the wheel, causing a strange knocking noise as well. Good luck.
