If you accidentally swap ignition wires 3 & 4 at the spark plugs, you can
create these same symptoms. Unburnt fuel gets pushed to the muffler where it
burns and superheats the muffler, melting the paint off the rear valance panel.

BTDT - had to repaint the center of the rear valance.
