Two things come to my mind. The throttle position switch is number one. This needs to be working and properly adjusted. The second is the power steering idle up switch. Check to see if this is working properly and if not replace it. Could also be a bad chip on the ECU. This would be shown by replacing the ECU with a known good one just for troubleshooting. Hope this helps, Ken Wilford John 3:16 http://www.vanagain.com Phone: (856)-327-4936 Fax: (856)-327-2242 -----Original Message----- From: Vanagon Mailing List [mailto:vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com]On Behalf Of George Goff Sent: Wednesday, December 18, 2002 9:29 AM To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Subject: High Idle, Sometimes (NOT Idle Stabiliser Controller) I thought I had seen about every kind of weirdness which a Vanagon can exhibit, but I am open to any and all suggestions regarding this most recent bout of perverse running. At times, my '90 Syncro idles at about 2K. The strange thing is that when it is idling high, if I hold it with the brake and release the clutch slightly, I can drag the engine speed down to 1K and it will hold that speed rock solid until the throttle is blipped. As the engine has been gone over quite a bit, this one has me stumped. Hopefully someone will have had the same symptoms and he can save me untold hours of chasing my own tail. Thanks, one and all. George
