I got a 100 ohm resistor (or so) and used it between the wire that normally goes on to the sender and a good ground. I found my problem to be a BAD GROUND at the thermostat housing. If you have an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the temp sender's gound and a known good ground. Brad mykarmann wrote: >Hello all, > The coolant temp gauge on my 86 GL isn't functioning. I believe that the sensor is OK it was replaced when the heads were done in Oct. I've checked all connections and looked at the Bentley manual but I don't really know were to go from there. I need to check the gauge itself does anyone know a simple test to check it without pulling the instrument cluster? >The red light for the coolant level works and lights up fine with I place the key in the ignition.
