From what I have heard (this from a local VW guru that does all VWs) the
W719/30m has more filtering area / better filtering media hence 'longer
lasting'. The W719/5 is supposedly on it's way out, to be directly replaced
by the new #. It can be used on all 8V inline engines [except waterboxers]
according to him.
