I agree.  I'd have to go out and double check, but my recollection is
that the LED only glows when using propane, not on 12v or 110AC.  Based
on the behavior of the LED I have always assumed that it was driven by a
thermocouple that was heated by the pilot light/flame:  If the flame
goes out so does the LED.
