Subject:Re: O-Rings, was: rebuilder blames coolant for failure under warranty

Ok- I'll re-phrase--

I'm referring to my 1995 Golf inline -four engine in my 82 Westfalia that
never has any silicone anywhere, and never needs it.
It was a well-engineered engine.

I'll will concede with you knowing full well I'll be stepping on purist toes
to say that the WBX has some engineering flaws.

Silicone very well may be needed here in small or large quantities.
I never use it on the inline-four .
I use grease on paper gaskets. O-rings go on dry.

I never said goop up those O-rings. What I did say was "apply a
light
coating". AND how it came from the factory does not make it right.
Evidence
all the repairs and reengineering we've been doing here on the Vanagon List
for the last few years.
