I changed the cables on one of my Vans using welding 0 cable. .73 per foot plus the ends. It's copper, and plenty of wire in the cable to handle the volts / amps. I bought it a local farm supply store. The local automotive parts house will charge much more, and the welding cable is a smaller braids of wire, making it flexable and easier to use. I soldered the starter end on, the battery end is a crimp on. Good Evening, Fred E-mail message Subject: whats the quick fix for the starter cable? What's the quick fix for the starter cable? The cable (the thick one that goes to the battery) tore at the ferrule- right below the crimp where apparently it was a tiny bit short and had some strain on it. Short of replacing the entire cable -I am opened to suggestions for an effective repair.
