if youve been on this list for any great while (and i know you have brad!)
you should know by now that the automatic vanagons are more reliable
tranny-wise than the manual tranny vanagons.    the 4spd trannys develop the
infamous  3/4 gear slider hub crack problem.  design flaw specific to the
manual trannys only...
