On my 1989 I installed one and did not notice any existing hole in the
headliner. I just measured and cut one with a sharp utility knife and
riveted in the dome light I got at a junk dealer. I had to fish a 3 wire
harness I made from the driver side to the passenger side.

Good luck. Worth doing for sure.
