Larry -

Sometimes a song can communicate where the written word stumbles.

You might appreciate these -

Fire in the Sky - http://artists.mp3s.com/artist_song/2475/2475506.html

Witnesse's Waltz - http://artists.mp3s.com/artist_song/2473/2473673.html

Hope Eyrie - http://artists.mp3s.com/artist_song/2475/2475523.html

All are modern folk, written about Columbia, the space program, and the fire
that burns in man. The quality varies, but they all move me.

I wish I could also find a site to download Julia Ecklar's 'Phoenix' about
the Capsule 12 (Apollo 1) fire which killed Grissom, Chaffe and White. It's
part of the 1983 'Minus Ten and Counting' album, which has long been out of
print.

Columbia was seven years older than my Vanagon, and I wish she had survived
to put on another few million miles.

"From all who tried out of history's tide,
Salute for the team that won.
And the old Earth smiles at her children's reach,
The wave that carried us up the beach
To reach for the shining sun."
                                             - Hope Eyrie
